Up above is the link to the current gallery I made. Feel free to have a look.
ArtSteps allows you to create your own VR exhibitions cheaply. The building is done on the PC but the viewing can be downloaded through your mobile application. This is good for artists who have suffered from coronavirus. It allows anyone to have a space made by them either prebuilt or custom-made. You then can add in photographs or pictures you made and hang them in a whitespace gallery format. This allows the users to put on VR glasses and view and move around in the gallery as if the person was in a museum. This empowers students and teachers alike to have virtual art galleries.
Gamification
ArtSteps Uses Gamification. I built a gallery to see what the process was. I am pretty terrible at building but watching youtube videos reminded me of simulation games like The Sims. Some people even use this for NFT art and meme art and create cat art images from the web. The slogan for ArtSteps is, "Shape the Shape the Metaverse with your 3D virtual reality stories." Gamification is a game element in non-gaming situations to improve learning engagement. Some games have a reward system through gamification is more of a simulation. Gamification helps increase participation in an educational setting. Gamification aids in physical development such as exercising. It increases level of engagement in the classroom. It aids in accessibility in the classroom for example for a person who has autism, gamification meets all needs. Gamification isn't limited to in the classroom one can create paper periodic tables to teach.
VR and ART
The purpose of using VR is to teach art in classrooms. It is taught as digital art, art history, and virtual reality. This keeps students engaged, curious, and asking questions. Students can collaborate and work together digitally to recreate mastery works and create their voice when creating work of their own. Digital spaces exist forever and are an affordable way for people to share artwork from around the world like ArtSteps and VR Tilt. It allows students to paint, sculpt and draw in a virtual world. I discussed in a previous post that Google Tilt Google tilt allows users to use photogrammetry techniques to scan 3D objects from the real world in order to create 3D models in VR. This program allows users to import photographs and drawings along with applied animated effects to construct the world digitally.
Succeed in Mastery
According to Keller (2010), "Motivation to learn is promoted when learners believe they can succeed in mastering the learning task. Motivation to learn is promoted when learners believe they can succeed in mastering the learning task" (pg. 80.) People are more willing to learn a subject if they feel they can be successful in it. Fortunately, there are plenty of resources available for ArtSteps up. The community is large and there are many community posts such as Reddit and Youtube. Professors also use this platform there is a link that a student can copy and paste to showcase the student's gallery. A key principle of mastering a subject is the confidence of control over a situation. Helplessness is the opposite feeling of no control and negative feelings that failures are bound to happen. It is is important to make the learners always feel that they are in control to succeed.

Teaching through gaming is a fun way to prepare. Still, it can lead to misunderstandings and sometimes create disagreements and distractions that will make the concept being introduced disappear and change the focus of the discussion to the argument instead of the learning that is supposed to happen. That is why it is essential to make sure that rules are clear and people are motivated to join and learn the idea of the game. In addition, it is necessary to reiterate the learning outcome they will get out of the current activity. Keeping people engaged is very important for all these reasons. Make the topic easy to understand, increase the learners' participation, and make the point more natural. Maintaining engagement is…
As a STEAM instructor, I am always looking for ways to connect science, math, technology, and engineering with art. I find ArtSteps to be a refreshing way to bring art into the virtual world while gamifying the process and teaching people more about VR Glasses, virtual art spaces, and NFT’s.
Amanda’s case study outlines the immense potential ArtSteps can bring art into the digital classroom. The world is becoming more reliant on digital spaces, and it is important that our students are prepared for the world they will be going into, rather than the one we are used to. In 2021, our world started to transition towards this virtual reality, starting to favor the metaverse and NFT’s in a pivotal…
Amanda’s case study was an inspiring look at how a platform like Art Steps can foster an amazing virtual learning environment for artists, art enthusiasts, and art students. I especially enjoyed seeing this platform in action with Amanda’s real-life art (which is so beautiful!).
The pandemic has really opened the doors for artists who want to showcase their art. But one can’t help but wonder if virtual reality is a “good enough” experience. We’re used to visiting art galleries and museums in person, so it takes some adaptation to immerse oneself in a VR art gallery/museum. I found an interesting article that addresses this issue and what I think is ultimately possible for art and VR is that as artists…
