Games to Increase Concentration on Kids




The motivating force and intrinsic interest that children include in their games are born from the epistemological nature of being human; That is why play and learning are necessarily related. Children's play is considered an activity with great potential for development and learning.

Children's play constitutes a psychosocial scenario where a type of communication rich in nuances occurs, which allows boys and girls to investigate their thinking, test their knowledge, and develop it progressively in the interactive use of actions and conversations between equals.

The play never ceases to be an occupation of primary importance during childhood." The life of children is playing and playing, nature implants strong inclinations or propensities to play in every normal child. Children play by instinct, by an internal force that forces them to move, manipulate, crawl, stand up, walk, and prologues to the game and the sport that disciplines them. They play motivated by an inner need, not by external command, order, or compulsion, the same need that would make a cat chase a rolling ball and play with it as it would with a mouse. Deeply absorbing play is essential for mental growth. Children able to sustain intense play are more likely to achieve success when they grow up.

During the game, the child joyfully begins their interaction with other children, exercises their language by speaking and mimicry, and develops and dominates their muscles, becoming aware of their usefulness.

Play is a valuable means to adapt to the family and social environment therefore children should be discouraged with warnings such as "Don't do that" "It's Dangerous" and "You're going to get hurt"..., the best way is to encourage him and provide safe places where they can develop.

It is necessary to remember that the child plays because there is an essentially active being and because their actions have to be developed by the degree of their mental development. Well, the game is the most obvious thing that exists but psychological explanations often do not explain to us what the essence of the game consists of. The theoretical explanation of the game would have to take the opposite path it would have to start from the evidence of the game and it would have to try to explain how it is that we lose that evidence, how it is that we no longer play, how we can understand what is not a game and How can we recover the lost evidence of the game, the lost paradise (Peak, C. S. (2004)).

Different kinds of games help the child develop different skills that will motivate their concentration like building a tower and other activities that promote motivation in any person (Reiser, R., & Dempsey, J. (2018)). The preschooler easily makes do with four blocks that they use as the walls of a farm or castle. But as they grow they will want their construction to look more like the model of real life or the one they had drawn up when they started it. Making a crane that works or cooking a cake following a recipe can be activities as fun as the best of games. But precisely to the extent that it has an objective established in advance and that the results will be evaluated based on said objective, it moves away from what is mere play and towards what we call work. In conclusion, play is important in the development of the child because it allows him the pleasure of doing things imagining them differently from how they appear to us of changing them in collaboration with others discovering in cooperation the very foundation of their social life (Suite, C. (2009)).

The importance of play in education is great, it activates all the organs of the body and strengthens and exercises psychic functions. Play is a powerful factor in preparing a child's social life. By playing, solidarity is learned, character is formed and consolidated, and creative power is stimulated.

Regarding individual power, games develop language, awaken ingenuity, develop the spirit of observation, affirm the will, and perfect patience. They also promote visual, tactile, and auditory acuity; they lighten the notion of time. They give ease, elegance, and agility to the body.

This learner engagement focuses on connecting kids with concentration and getting them engaged in learning with Headspace breathers. The different methods provided have some learner engagements that I want to share.


  1. Mastering a learning task

From the video provided, the instructor shares ways to help kids focus. One is a breathing exercise that engages the kids in completing the task. The exercise could be a quick 10-step breathing or longer, but it keeps them ready to complete it. This can be connected to self-efficacy, referring to planning and implementing behaviors to accomplish a goal (Bandura, 1997). The goal is to focus after the breathing exercise if their mind begins to wander.

Games to increase concentration in kids.  

Now-a-days kids attention span is getting increasingly shorter in my opinion because of social media. The video/ article talks about different ways to calm the child down and get them to get back concentrated. As an assistant teacher, I noticed this firsthand in one class; we did a rainbow video to get the child to calm down during each activity. Also, the younger kids get a movement break in between class and sometimes they would do yoga as a breather before they had to settle down. Implementing certain games are highly effective and they should be more involved in schools now.
