Introduction
Sports are of course interactive, and a coach is always needed to help better the athlete. Normally you see the coaches on the sideline telling them what needs to be corrected or that the play or move they made needs to be repeated. It is hard for an athlete to see what they are doing and often forget the move they did if it was correct because they didn’t get enough repetition. With Hudl, an “online and mobile platform for video sharing and review (Hudl.com)” helps coaches break down what the team or individual athlete did from videos that were uploaded from their recording/ mobile device. The videos can be from practices, and game day. This app help athletes and coaches be engaged through curiosity, goals, and volition.
Curiosity
“Curiosity is aroused by uncertainty or a desire to close a perceived gap in one’s knowledge due to such things as unanswered questions or unresolved conflicts (Rieser, Dempsey, 2018).” When athletes are in the act of performing and something they did, did not go right, they automatically wonder what they did wrong. For example, with track and field, coaches cannot be on the track or field when you are performing. They must be in their prospective coach's area. Hudl gives athletes the chance after performing to walk through where things went wrong or right. With this app, coaches can “Help your athletes see exactly what needs to improve. Allow them to critique their performance or provide personalized feedback by adding comments and drawings before sending clips for review (Hudl.com).”
Meaningful Goals
Some athletes have goals from their youth to become college and professional athletes. “By only investing in one dimension of student-athletes' lives, we miss an important opportunity to help student-athletes recognize the connections between their strengths on the field and in the classroom. Instead of remaining siloed, we can work together to help promote student-athletes' development in all areas of life (Ferlazzo, 2019).” This apps gives athletes of all ages more to do than just play. This app helps with communication with teammates and coaches and explore technology and learn from afar. With Hudl athletes of all ages and coaches can interact with each other. “Relevance can also be achieved by creating meaningful challenges, especially for people with high needs for achievement, and giving them a measure of control over setting their goals and the means of accomplishing them (Alschuler, Tabor, & McIntyre, 1971; McClelland, 1984).” Athletes can make their highlight films from that season and every year on. With highlights, it gives athletes the chance to showcase to everyone who has the internet to look them up from a link. Scouts from colleges and even professional teams can see the skills they have developed over the years.
Maintaining Volition
“Volition is the absolute commitment to achieving something. To activate their willpower, individuals must pass a mental barrier, a personal Rubicon (Ghoshal, Bruch, 2016).” When those goals collide, volitional strategies can help students prioritize their goals and avoid being distracted by those that are less important at a given moment (Kuhl & Kraska, 1989). Just like any other classroom on the field coaches can construct post-season evaluation and self-reflection for their athletes and the coaching staff. Hudl offers the service through the X&O lab for coaches to do research. Hudl also gives coaches the ability to have one on one meetings with staff and athletes when schedules conflict. This helps because during the season athletes can get down and seasons can be postponed like now because of a pandemic. Being able to stay connected and keep the motivation and the volition pumping through these strategies can be helpful.
Conclusion
Hudl is an outlet for athletes to get any questions they need to be answered whenever it comes to mind because they can carry it with them. The coaches and athletes can interact with their team in many ways with messages and drawing to get a better understanding of the sport and techniques. An app like this does a lot for athletes of all ages to continue learning different things they can do within the sports world. The sports industry is much more than being a coach or an athlete.

Curiosity
Hudl is a great tool that helps increase the curiosity of the person using it and helps them perfect their skills by recording their movements so the athlete can watch the video and see their moments in action as many times as they want. It is a great tool not just for the athletes but for their coaches because it allows having an extra set of eyes that is recording each moment that the athlete is doing and then reviewing to make changes according to each person's needs. This tool increases the curiosity not only of the athlete but for the coach since it allows for creating personalized feedback that people can share. This tool helps athletes improve their…
Motivation for the instructor:
Hudl is a tool designed for instructors and coaches of multiple sports intended to make their job easier through visual media and data. This type of platform can entirely change the approach to training and practice from sports coaches. Having visual aid to attend issues for teams and individual athletes allows instructors to make a variety of adjustments, not only to ensure the best performance from their athletes but also prevent future injuries. Hudl can help, in the long term, in the longevity of competitors in high risk activities. The novelty and the usefulness of the platform is enough motivation for the coach. It might start as a consequential “Hawthorne effect” (Keller, Deimann. 2018), yet the…
HUDL – ATHLETES BELIEVE THEY CAN SUCCEED
Any individual in sports or performance can tell you that their eyes are on the prize. They can not observe themselves. They have to memorize their movements. Everything is sensorial – what they hear, what they sense, and what they feel. They rely on others to inform them of the specifics of their performance. Hudl is excellent technology that gives athletes a visual representation of their performance. What they see they can then correct. Knowing this self-assessment technology is available gives the athletes more control over their performance. The coaches must be careful in their joint assessment to encourage and maintain a growth mindset in their athletes. “A growth mindset… attributes success t…
Hudl is an excellent piece of software for athletes to monitor their performance. From training to game time, athletes can review their performances and learn from wins and losses. Hudl also allows athletes to keep track of their best plays and create highlight reels for recruiting. Coaches can use the platform to review what plays worked and didn’t work.
Meaningful Goals
As both athletes and coaches work to improve and be the best, the software allows them to review the footage, highlight key moments and make adjustments as needed. Learning through this platform helps them a winning record if applied correctly and efficiently. Students are exposed to a higher level of standards including physical and emotional stresses when it comes…
