A Global Communication Application Created By Study Cats
Study Cat Active Learning Cycle of Cultural Exploration and Curiosity
Language Practice: Continue to explore new cultures and ideas to generate enthusiasm, clarity, and retention for learners.
Language Output: Researched activities give learners opportunities to demonstrate what language is learned and its cultural values.
Language Consolidate: Restart or Recycling content learned will provide target learning and frees up brain space for future learning.
Language Input: Assessing content acquired by participants. Assessments are demonstrated through music. games, quizzes, and immediate feedback.
Connections between global communities and cognitive growth
The Study Cat application is designed for children ages three to ten; however, this is a learning tool for everyone. Learning a new language is a great opportunity for the entire family to engage and build a foundation for a strong family structure that reinforce values. As stated in the article titled, "Roles and Responsibilities of Teachers", recommends that learning is organized through a perspective on intercultural relationships allowing participants to communicate through collaboration. The article explains that knowledge obtained contributes to teaching inclusive intercultural competencies such as teamwork and language development through foreign languages, education, and authentic history.
Cognitive inceptions of global participants
Cognitive inceptions intersect with motivational characteristics. A state is a condition brought on by a situational stimulus process, whereas a trait is a stable psychological drive or motive. (Brophy, 1998; Keller, 1983b. Rotto, 1994). The ability to communicate in various languages provides a feeling of achievement.
Learners participating in global connection through technology will remember the content as they complete various levels of learning new concepts of communication. The Study Cat application generates immediate feedback and interactions. Learners can advance to the next level or repeat the current activity until goals and objectives are mastered.

Collaborative Learning
In language learning, having a partner to practice and learn with greatly benefits the learners because they can put their learning to practical use. The blog post mentions this collaborative learning style when an entire family takes part in learning a new language together. Collaborative learning has other benefits, like enhancing teamwork, decision-making, building social skills, and promoting individual accountability (Vega-Abarzua, 2022). This exchange between learners can also increase learner engagement because they do not focus only on grades but on self-satisfaction instead (Vega-Abarzua, 2022). As instructional designers, collaborative learning will allow learning to be somewhat more learner-centric while an instructor monitors and gives feedback. Engagement is high in collaborative activities because everyone must participate; the task is…
Study Cat’s model makes language learning accessible. Study Cat is an effective learning tool through its use of the following learner engagement principles:
1. Intrinsic motivation
Learning to speak another language is confidence boosting. As the reading highlights, “motivation to learn is promoted when learners anticipate and experience satisfying outcomes to a learning task.” Dempsey, J.V., R.A. Reiser. (2018). “The ability to communicate in various languages provides a feeling of achievement.” Dempsey, J.V., R.A. Reiser. (2018).
2. Extrinsic motivation
Study Cat generates immediate feedback. The instant gratification provides the student with a sense of satisfaction. Learners are more likely to remain motivated to accomplish a task if they are rewarded for its completion.
3. Opportunity
Opportunity is one o…
The Study Cat app was designed for children, but has been proven to assist people of all age groups in engaging and learning new languages. As someone aspiring to be part of education reform for media and arts institutions, I believe that communication and comprehension are always the most important factors. When a piece of data can’t be understood, the curiosity gained until that point can go in 2 directions – it can increase or decrease. When curiosity increases, motivation has the potential to step in as fuel to move forward and close the knowledge gap. When curiosity decreases, the level of motivation tends to have a downward trend leading to a decrease in momentum towards the goal. “Curiosity is…
Studycat seems like a great program to introduce young learners to the world of foreign languages. Because of apps like Studycat, all learners can immerse themselves in a new language and a new culture. Through multi-media content, Studycat brings the experience into the homes of more than 11 million families worldwide (PR Newswire, 2020). Studycat is one of many apps that helps to boost learning and language acquisition. It has been found that with the help of adults, young children who use word-learning apps have higher growth in vocabulary than those who use them on their own (Walter-Laager, Brandenberg, Tinguely, Schwarz, Pfiffner, & Moschner, 2017). Studycat and digital language learning apps promote a more advanced language proficiency than formal instruction…
Language acquisition is extremely important and as a teacher, I admire interactive websites and applications when it comes time to learn a second language. Studycat prides itself on a language learning app that is fun and intuitive. This application also allows children to be in control of how long they spend on the app and which activities to complete. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, countries had to shut down and switch to online learning to minimize exposure and spread of the disease. I found a study that determines the effectiveness of online platforms specifically related to language acquisition for elementary ESL students (Yen & Mohamad, 2021). This study offers many recommendations for teachers and even parents. They recommend educators to…
